Murder

Producer: Mukesh Bhatt
Director: Anurag Basu
Music: Anu Malik
Cast: Mallika Sherawat, Ashmit Patel, Emraan Hashmi

Murder
is the desi version of the Richard Gere, Diane Lane starred Unfaithful. The movie is set in Bangkok and revolves around three main characters, Simran (Mallika Sherawat), Sudhir (Ashmit Patel) and Sunny (Emraan Hashmi). Simran is married to Sudhir who use to be her brother-in-law, and she is also mother to her nephew. The couple share a complex relationship which does not get easier especially when Sudhir keeps comparing Simran to his former wife (her sister). Sudhir is obsessed with work and this is a major part of the couple drifting apart.

On a rainy day after shopping, Simran bumps into Sunny who used to be her boyfriend. He invites her to his place which just happens to be across the street (coincidence or what!). After some hesitation, Simran goes up to his apartment where the door just happens to be open. Meeting Sunny again gives Simran a new lease on life which eventually leads to an extra-marital affair. Sudhir eventually wises up and hires a detective to follow Simran around.

After Simran catches a glimpse of Sunny with another woman, she confronts him in his apartment. After some harsh words are said and Sunny abuses Simran, she picks up a knife (which just happens to be there) but we’re not really sure what she does with it because the scene changes. While leaving Sunny’s apartment, Sudhir sees Simran and fuming with rage, he confronts Sunny. What happens next, you’ll have to watch the movie to find out!!

The music is not that great but the one song that’s worth listening to is “Kaho Na Kaho” which has some exotic music to it. Overall the movie was different from the typical commercial phillums around. It seems that the Bhatt’s are obsessed with this genre of movies, first they brought us Jism then Saaya, Paap and now Murder. How far will they go with their next venture, your guess is as good as mine.
